Draw a projectile motion diagram showing the parabolic trajectory with velocity components at several points

Here's a projectile trajectory: a parabola from launch to landing, with the constant horizontal velocity and changing vertical velocity shown at three points.

Review the vectors

Check arrow directions, units, and labels against the assumptions before using the diagram.

Separate the path from the motion

A projectile diagram shows a trajectory together with quantities such as velocity components, displacement, and acceleration. The usual parabolic classroom model assumes constant downward gravity and no air resistance.

Use it to explain a physics problem

An angled throw or a ball rolling off a table is easier to discuss when launch conditions and reference heights are visible. The example shows a schematic trajectory with velocity-component, peak, and range labels, not a verified numerical solution.

Make the physical assumptions visible

  1. Define the origin. Heights and displacements need a stated reference.
  2. Label the idealization. A no-drag model should be identified as such.
  3. Keep vectors distinct. Velocity follows the tangent; gravitational acceleration points downward.
  4. Check the apex. In the ideal model, vertical velocity is zero there while gravity still acts.
  5. Match equations to conditions. Do not apply a same-height range result to a landing at a different elevation.

Draft the explanation around the problem

MyMap draws a schematic from your launch description. Ask to add axes, move labels, or show another point on the path, then check any requested calculations independently.

Common questions

Does velocity become zero at the top?

Only the vertical component is zero at the apex of an ideal angled launch. The horizontal component remains nonzero unless the launch was purely vertical.

Can the diagram include air resistance?

Describe the intended qualitative model explicitly. Do not interpret a drafted curve as a validated drag simulation.

Is the example drawn to scale?

It is a schematic illustration. Supply a scale and verify coordinates if quantitative geometry is required.
