Draft a conceptual P&ID for a water storage tank with an inlet pump (P-101), suction and discharge isolation valves, a level transmitter (LT-101) on the tank, a level indicating controller (LIC-101), and a control valve (LCV-101) on the outlet line that throttles flow to maintain tank level, plus a high-level alarm switch.

Here's the conceptual P&ID for the water storage tank level control loop.

What is a P&ID?

A piping and instrumentation diagram describes process equipment, piping connections, valves, and instrumentation. It communicates how equipment is connected and how process measurements and controls relate to that equipment.

Use it for a technical concept discussion

A concept draft can organize equipment lists and questions for engineering review. A working engineering P&ID also needs the project's approved conventions, detailed design basis, and review process.

Keep the technical intent explicit

  1. Preserve unique tags. Each equipment item and instrument must retain its supplied identifier.
  2. Distinguish line meanings. Use a legend for process piping and instrument signals.
  3. Identify valve details. Include the valve types and functions provided in the design information.
  4. Show known control relationships. Connect measurement, control, and actuation without filling gaps by assumption.
  5. Mark missing design information. Use an open question or TBD label for unspecified details.

A concept diagram for review

MyMap turns your equipment description into a diagram that you can refine by asking for specific changes. No fixed example accompanies this page, so start with your own equipment list and keep the draft's review status clear.

Common questions

Is the generated diagram certified to an engineering standard?

No certification is established here. Supply the required project conventions and have the diagram reviewed through your normal engineering process.

Can I use the draft for installation?

A generated concept is not an approved construction document. Installation requires the appropriate detailed design and engineering approval.

What should I do with missing instrument information?

Keep it explicitly unresolved. Provide the tag, function, and relationship once confirmed, then ask to update the diagram.
