About the framework

Review a four-function company hierarchy

The CEO connects to CTO, VP Product, VP Sales, and CFO. Each executive has two direct reports, forming a 13-role chart with three reporting levels. Engineering Lead and DevOps Lead report to the CTO; Product Manager and UX Lead report to VP Product.

Sales Director and Marketing Director sit under VP Sales. Finance Manager and HR Manager sit under the CFO. Those placements are specific to this example, with no claim that every company should organize marketing or HR that way. Individual names, vacancies, and team sizes are absent.

Adapt the chart by confirming the executive functions your company uses, then assigning each lead to the correct manager. Add role holders and vacant positions if the chart will support onboarding or hiring discussions.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions

Why is HR under the CFO?

That is the sample reporting arrangement. Replace it with your actual HR reporting line rather than treating the template as a recommended governance model.

Does this chart include every employee?

It contains executive and lead or manager roles only. Add the teams or named staff needed for the level of detail you want.

Can it show a department that reports directly to the CEO?

Name the department and its leader, then ask to add that reporting connection. The current CEO has four direct reports.
