Create a medical triage decision tree for emergency department intake based on symptom severity
About the framework
This medical triage decision tree demonstrates a sequence of branching questions. Patient Arrives leads to Breathing?, then one path continues through Conscious? and Pain Level?. Four terminal boxes carry the labels Emergency / Immediate Care, Urgent / Priority Care, Priority / Soon Treatment, and Standard / Routine Care.
The example contains eight nodes. It does not include symptom-specific pathways, numerical wait-time targets, vital-sign thresholds, or a validated triage scale. Its simplified branches should not be used to assess patients or assign real care priorities, and they should not be relabeled as ESI levels.
Use the layout to discuss how decision nodes, branch labels, and endpoints work. For process documentation, supply a clinician-approved protocol and ask the AI to diagram that exact logic. Clinical reviewers need to verify the resulting conditions and paths before any operational use.

Frequently asked questions
No. The embedded example is an unvalidated illustration of branching logic. Real clinical use requires an approved protocol and clinical review of the resulting diagram.
No. The sample branches do not establish an ESI assessment. Renaming its four outcomes would not make it an ESI protocol.
Provide the exact pathway approved by your clinical team and ask the AI to represent it. Review the generated diagram against that source rather than asking it to invent clinical criteria.
