Create a data flow diagram example for a student registration system
About the framework
This example models a Student and Registrar interacting with four processes: Register, Enroll in Course, Validate Prerequisites, and Generate Invoice. Student DB, Course DB, and Billing DB hold the records referenced by those processes. Eleven labeled arrows describe applications, course selection, seat counts, approvals, and invoices.
The registrar supplies an override approval to prerequisite validation. Approved enrollment moves toward invoice generation, which stores an invoice and sends tuition information to the student. The diagram shows selected flows; it does not include a prerequisite rejection response, an enrollment store, or every database reply.
Use it to discuss system boundaries before detailing registration rules. Ask for missing return flows or a separate view of enrollment validation, and name the information each arrow carries so readers can distinguish data movement from a sequence of actions.

Frequently asked questions
The Registrar sends an Override approval flow to Validate Prerequisites. Other administrative actions are not drawn in the example.
No. Generate Invoice writes to Billing DB and sends a tuition invoice to the Student. Payment processing would need additional processes and flows.
No. Course DB returns a seat count, but the transcript check has no drawn response. Add the data returned by each store when developing a more detailed model.
