Review causal claims

Ask AI to label uncertain links and separate background conditions from direct triggers.

Look both before and after an event

A multi-flow map places an event between its contributing causes and its consequences. Arrows run from causes into the event and from the event toward effects.

Use it for causal discussion

Analyze a historical event, project setback, story decision, or proposed policy when both origins and consequences matter.

What to check

  1. Bound the event. A specific occurrence is easier to analyze than a broad subject.
  2. Separate triggers and conditions. A final trigger may differ from the conditions that made an event possible.
  3. Keep arrow direction consistent. Causes point toward the event; effects point away.
  4. Avoid inevitability. Use qualified language when several factors shape an outcome.
  5. Distinguish predictions. Future effects should not look like recorded facts.

Arrange a causal map in MyMap

MyMap organizes the event and related factors into connected boxes. The example concerns World War I. Its historical links are simplified discussion prompts; do not treat alliances as automatic mechanisms or later wars as inevitable consequences.

Common questions

Is a multi-flow map bidirectional?

It looks at causes and effects on two sides, but each causal arrow has a direction. It does not imply that effects cause the original event.

Can I map a decision that has not happened?

Yes. Label the consequences as possibilities and include the assumptions behind them.

How much historical detail belongs in the map?

Use concise factors supported by your course sources. Add notes for contested explanations instead of making every connection look certain.
