Create a swimlane diagram for an employee expense reimbursement process
About the framework
The reimbursement example divides work into Employee, Manager, and Finance lanes. Eight workflow nodes show submission, manager review, an approval decision, receipt audit, a policy decision, payment, reimbursement, and correction by the employee.
A No from either approval decision routes to Fix and Resubmit. That step returns to the manager’s Review Expense node, including when Finance requested the correction. A successful policy check goes to Process Payment and Reimbursed. The diagram makes those handoffs visible but supplies no spending limits, payment timing, or escalation rules.
Adapt the flow with the roles and review criteria in your expense policy. Decide whether corrected receipts really need another manager review, and add a separate rejection endpoint if some expenses cannot be fixed and resubmitted.

Frequently asked questions
The sample sends Fix and Resubmit back to the manager’s Review Expense step. This also applies to corrections requested by Finance.
The Manager lane asks Approve? after reviewing the expense. Finance then audits the receipt and asks Policy OK? before processing payment.
No. Both No outcomes lead to correction and resubmission. Add an ineligible-expense endpoint if your policy distinguishes rejection from a fixable error.
