How to turn video content into flashcards

No template to fill in and no drawing. You talk; the canvas keeps up.

Flashcards from video transcripts

Video flashcards turn spoken explanations into short retrieval prompts. A useful card asks a clear question and gives a concise answer that can be checked without replaying an entire lesson. Selecting testable ideas matters more than converting every sentence.

When it helps

Use them after a tutorial or lecture when you need to remember terms, rules, or distinctions. For a procedure that depends on visible gestures or diagrams, supplement the transcript with your own description of those details.

What to check

  1. Test one idea. Split a broad question into separate prompts when it requires several independent answers.
  2. Ground answers in the source. Do not silently fill gaps in a transcript with assumed lesson content.
  3. Remove answer clues. Avoid putting the key term inside the question that asks for that term.
  4. Keep necessary context. Name the programming language, theory, or example when the answer depends on it.
  5. Review caption errors. Correct misheard technical terms before relying on the cards.

Build it with MyMap

MyMap can arrange transcript-based questions and answers on the canvas and revise them through follow-up requests. The example contains Python study cards on data types, scope, comprehensions, and error handling; some cover several points and can be split for more focused practice.

Common questions

Do I need to upload a video?

Use the transcript or caption text as the input. A written description can also provide material, but it only supports cards about the details you include.

Will the cards use visual information from the video?

A transcript alone may omit demonstrations, diagrams, or on-screen text. Add those details explicitly when they matter.

Are these scheduled revision cards?

This page concerns drafting card content. Do not assume a spaced-repetition schedule or integration with a separate flashcard app.
