Simple by design
List the species or groups you want to compare. No formatting needed — just name the organisms and any traits you want to highlight.
MyMap's AI generates a branching tree diagram with organisms at the tips, branching points showing common ancestors, and shared derived traits (synapomorphies) labeled at each node.
Add more organisms, relabel traits, or ask AI to rearrange branches. Export as PNG or PDF for biology assignments, lab reports, or study materials.
About the framework
A cladogram is a branching diagram that shows the evolutionary relationships between organisms based on shared derived characteristics (synapomorphies). Developed from the principles of cladistics — a classification method introduced by entomologist Willi Hennig in the 1950s — cladograms organize organisms into nested groups called clades, where each clade shares a common ancestor.
Unlike other tree diagrams, cladogram branch lengths carry no information — only the branching pattern matters. Each branching point (node) represents a hypothetical common ancestor, and the traits that define each split are labeled along the branches.
Cladograms are essential in biology education for teaching evolutionary classification, understanding how organisms are related, and distinguishing between ancestral and derived traits.
MyMap's AI generates accurate cladograms from a list of organisms — with branching points, shared traits, and proper cladistic structure — ready for biology coursework or research.

Frequently asked questions
Yes — you can create cladograms for free without signing up. Free accounts include a generous number of AI messages per month. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited cladograms.
Absolutely. Every node and branch is editable — add or remove organisms, relabel synapomorphies, change branch order, or ask AI to add outgroup comparisons.
A cladogram shows only branching order and shared derived traits — branch lengths have no meaning. A phylogenetic tree can also represent evolutionary time or genetic distance through proportional branch lengths. Both are supported by MyMap.
Yes. The cladograms use accurate biological terminology including synapomorphies, derived and ancestral traits, and proper cladistic groupings — matching AP Biology and college-level evolutionary biology curricula.
Yes. You can build cladograms for vertebrates, invertebrates, plants, fungi, bacteria, or any group of organisms. Just describe the species and AI determines the most likely evolutionary relationships based on shared derived traits.
