Create a state diagram for an e-commerce order lifecycle
About the framework
This e-commerce order example contains nine status nodes and one Payment OK? decision. The main route goes from Order Placed through Confirmed and the payment check to Processing, Shipped, and Delivered. Failed payment branches to Payment Failed.
Cancel links leave both Order Placed and Confirmed. Delivered can lead to Return Requested and then Refunded. The drawing uses ordinary shapes and labeled connectors; it does not define a full state-machine specification or every possible order outcome. Payment retries, cancellation after processing, partial shipments, and return rejection are absent.
Adapt the diagram around the transitions your order system actually permits. Add an event or condition to each link and decide which role or system can trigger it. Separate a refund request from a completed refund if that distinction matters in your workflow.
