Create an anchor chart for reading comprehension strategies
About the framework
This anchor chart presents Predict, Visualize, Question, Connect, Summarize, and Infer in six colored sections. Each pairs a short instruction with sentence starters. The 16 starters include prompts for a prediction, a mental picture, a personal connection, and a conclusion about the text.
The example places Predict before reading; Visualize, Question, and Connect during reading; and Summarize and Infer after reading. These labels organize the sample lesson rather than restricting when a reader can use each strategy.
For a class text, replace the general starters with prompts about its characters, setting, or argument. Keep examples short enough for students to consult while reading, and ask them to support predictions and inferences with words from the passage.
